		<description>No, Time Machine will wipe the drive clean and occupy the data. 
BUT you can do this: Partition the external drive, so that you can choose which partition will be dedicated to Time Machine. This means that you&#039;ll have one partition left to store other data. 
I did this with my  1TB external: 250GB for Time Machine and about 700GB for other data. 
The partitioning can be done with Disk Utility, which can be found in &quot;Applications&quot; -&gt; &quot;Utilities&quot;</description>
