factory and equipment from being deported to Germany. This would potentially cause him to be accused of collaboration with the enemy; or 2) Refuse to cooperate with the Germans and lose everything when his factory and equipment were sent to Germany. In order to save Renault he chose the former and co-managed the company with his German overseers. When Germany was defeated by the Allies, Louis Renault lost everything anyway. The French viewed him as aiding the enemy during the German …

No matter what was said about Renault, he was still a collaborator.
Damn Nazis they are destroyed our good name…..
´cause of them everyone thinks we germans are nazis…
Fascinating piece of WW2 history. Sounds as though poor Louis Renault was going to lose whatever happened. At least the name survived, unlike dozens of other car manufacturers.
No we don’t, not at all meine obersturmbanfuhrer.
Sorry, couldn’t resist!
iz that the one on the river? if it wuz did they rebuild it after the war or leave it how it wuz? cuz im confused on the history of the renault factory
Talking about Hitler´s dreams in his Third Reich to be…the Volkswagen, created and designed by his engineers…to be used by the “new” and “Aryan” German family. Truly, but, the Volkswagen, manufactured in Wolfsburg, West Germany, became one of the greatest successes in car history. The Beetle, the Buggy – Hitler´s work. Vielen Dank !
This factory has been rebuilt after the war, and closed definetely in 1992.
oh thanx
of course it was accurate it destroyed most of the factory which was the point wasnt it?
Thanks, Bomberguy, for this striking vid and for your accurate comment. Contrary to Renault, some French industrialists decided to cease working, rather than collaborate (e.g. Hispano-Suiza, which made aircraft motors). As you point, it was a case of “no win” choice — “being cornered”. At another scale, it was Vichy’s basic problem.
In 1944, it was just normal to imprison Renault and others. Yet communists wanted his head and got it. Berliet was jailed too, but recovered his Cy years later.
this thing points to us just how good were the german motors , if the germans ocupied renault and made them produce engines for their cars
lol to the germans who coldn t make decent engines for their cars and had to borrow from renault
er, only because the Brit Army rebuit it & ran it for 10 years after the war
Yeah, cos it was not any of your relations giving the Nazi salute, God no…!
Although why didnt Renault or the authorities just blow up the plant in 1940 before the Germans overran it? That would’ve ensured his non-collaboration and if there was to be a peace treaty later on, rebuild the factories then.
In WW2, “bombing accuracy” was getting within 1/4 mile of the target.
Actually the VW Beetle was a total rip-off of a Tatra, designed by Hans Ledwinka who met Adolf Hitler and Ferdinand Porsche to discuss producing his car. They did. Without him. And finally in the 70s (I think) VW was forced to pay huge damages to Ledwinka. Back to planes…nice work Bomberguy
Cracking footage! Do we know which stirling squadrons were involved? WOuld guess 2 or 3 looking at nos of aircraft – my uncle was on 218 at the time on Stirlings
Just like because of G.W. Bush everyone thinks we AMERICANS are greedy, violent, spoiled idiots. Most Americans hate Bush, and we don’t all have guns, chew tobacco, and support the stu[id war in Iraq.
Don’t worry, Medic, we’ve heard of your new president’s -election. And we watch enough American movies to know that your country is loaded with talents and wits.
We just would like you people to eat less pemmican and take off these feathers from your scalps
Ahh how to bomb France today and close the tunnel..
Lol raise one hand if u like frenchemen – raise two if u are from france
Who wrote the music at the very beginning of the clip before the live footage starts?
The Louis Renault factory was occupied !
And by who ?????
A nephew of …. FERDINAND PORSCHE, the NAZI COLLABORATOR .
Louis Renault was not master at home during the occupation, he had not the choice .
O C C U P A T I O N .
Don’t re-write history like that please .
And why Louis Renault wanted to save his auto production ?
Because in the WW1, he was one of the main French army supplier with :
The Renault Tank, the Canon, and also the engine for plane Breguet 14 .
After the WW1, his Auto Production was in late in front of the opponents .
And for the second time, he wanted to prepare the post war era .
He was blocked and stollen by the nazis under the control of a PORSCHE b****** and
Let Louis Renault in peace and don’t remove this comment please .
Your info video is impressive, congrats for your accurate job .
Just few things forgeten, but important things .
After the judgement, 10 years after the death of Louis Renault, he was washed of all charges against him .
The nationalisation is a political operation orchestrated by De Gaulle .
And about the 4CV, the 4cv was develloped in secret of Louis Renault he disagree with this concept .
